The 3A (attract, advocate, accelerate) Playbook - Featuring Wendy Brand

1. Lead with a Culture Compass

Wendy emphasizes that culture isn’t just an HR initiative—it must be led from the top. Her “Culture Compass” framework anchors teams with mission, vision, and core values that guide daily behavior and decisions. When employees align with this compass, the entire customer and stakeholder experience improves—creating a ripple effect of brand loyalty and clarity.

Try this: Audit your current mission, vision, and values. Ask: are they visible, actionable, and truly lived across the organization? If not, reset your compass.

2.Turn Employees into Superfans

Employees who feel appreciated and connected don’t just stay—they become your most authentic promoters. Wendy shared how recognition, inclusion, and visible development paths keep people engaged and energize their performance. It’s not about big budgets; it’s about being intentional.

Try this: Start a 30-day responsive listening sprint—gather anonymous employee feedback, act on at least one idea, and close the loop publicly to show you’re serious.

Welcome Wendy Brand with Culture Coach to the Business Superfans podcast show this morning. How are you, Wendy?

Wendy Brand
00:01:46.074 – 00:01:49.784
I am great. Thank you so much for having me. I’m excited to be here.

Freddy D
00:01:49.882 – 00:02:02.188
Yeah, we’re excited to have you. So share with our listeners what’s your backstory of how you created and how you became the Culture Coach?

That’s quite interesting to hear that story.

Wendy Brand
00:02:02.324 – 00:02:58.980
Yeah, absolutely. Well, I have 30 years in the corporate world and my career was just one pivot after another.

From starting out working on cruise ships to running the NCAA Final Four events in San Antonio in 2002 and 2004, leading a WNB team, then pivoting into tech, nonprofit, and then ending my career in retail in leadership roles of all types. And I burned out twice in my career and the second time at the age of 53.

I decided it was time to go it on my own, taking what I’d learned in all of those different pivots, the experiences in all different types of cultures. I feel like I’ve seen what works. I’ve seen and experienced what doesn’t work.

And so I’m just on a mission to help organizations create an environment. Environment where their employees can thrive, but their revenue and profits can rise as well.
