Freddy D 00:00:00 Welcome Paige to the Business Superfans podcast. How are you this afternoon?
Paige Wilson 00:00:04 I am doing great. Freddie. How are you doing?
Freddy D 00:00:07 I’ve been doing pretty good. Long time no see. So back to the Chicago days.
Paige Wilson 00:00:12 Back in Chicago. Yep, yep, that.
Freddy D 00:00:15 Was a hot minute ago.
Paige Wilson 00:00:16 It was. Gosh, I don’t even want to think I had a date myself, but I think. But it’s been at least probably close to 30 years. Yeah.
Freddy D 00:00:26 Yeah, it’s been been I’ve went back for a little in 2000 for three years, lived just downtown, an old town, and my brother ended up going to Germany for three months, and I was on a month, a month. So I went house at his place and I ended up meeting my fiance. It took a little while to move her back to Arizona, because she didn’t want to be one of those that meet some guy and and go halfway across the world, and it doesn’t work out. Almost 12 years later, were actually tying the knot in Mesa.
Paige Wilson 00:00:56 Congratulations. That’s awesome. That is exciting. So when’s the big day?
Freddy D 00:01:01 October 2nd. We’re getting married in Hawaii.
Paige Wilson 00:01:04 Oh, fabulous.
Freddy D 00:01:05 Yeah. And then we go on a long cruise. We leave Hawaii. We go to Kona from Kona, Tahiti, American Samoa, New Zealand, and we finish in Sydney, Australia. And it was spending seven days in Australia, so. Oh, my.
Paige Wilson 00:01:18 Gosh, how long is the total trip?
Freddy D 00:01:20 Five weeks.
Paige Wilson 00:01:21 Oh my gosh. Now that’s what I’m talking about. That’s a honeymoon. Hahaha that’s great.
Freddy D 00:01:27 We took us long enough so might as well take a long honeymoon.
Paige Wilson 00:01:31 Good for you. Good for you. That’s exciting.
Freddy D 00:01:33 So thank you. Paige, tell us a little bit about how you got to where you are in the health care field, where you’re actually helping people improve their health, weight loss management, and transforming people’s lives in a very positive way.
Paige Wilson 00:01:51 It’s funny, Freddie, because I really just fell into this. I spent 20 years in media sales and management.
Paige Wilson 00:01:58 And that actually I was working in media when I met you in Chicago and I about six years ago. And just to give you a little frame of reference, I’m getting a little personal here. I was in your diner, okay? I was up and down and up and down. Not a whole lot. Maybe 15, 20, maybe 25 after my kids house that I would, you know, and I did every diet under the sun. And I try to repeal potion program out there and I could lose weight, but only to a certain point, and then I would gain it back. So six years ago, I was introduced to this particular program that actually I am now coaching. And a week into it, I knew it was different from anything I had ever tried. And the program worked beautifully. I lost almost £30 and I’ve kept it off. That was six years ago. In the process I had, my coaches kept putting a bug in my ear saying, you really should think about coaching this program that will help you keep your weight off.
Paige Wilson 00:02:58 You’re going to have friends who want to know what you’re doing. Sure enough, I had a friend want me. She wanted to know what I was doing, and she wanted me to coach her. So I became a coach and I was actually at that time doing real estate full time. I was doing this little coaching gig on the side and it just exploded. I put a post out on Facebook and the next thing I know, I’ve got 20 people joining me. Yeah, one post and it grew from there, and it grew so fast that I ended up putting my real estate to the side, got with my coaches and said, okay, what’s the financial opportunity here? I can really create a business out of this. So that’s what I did. It has grown to just to put it in perspective. I personally have coached over 700 people in the last six years, and my team has coached over 202,500 people. We have have clients all over the country, and I host a zoom every Saturday morning that draws about 150 to 200 people as part of our mindset work and our education work.
Paige Wilson 00:04:10 And it’s been an incredible experience. It’s funny because when I had started on the health program itself, just as a client and I was doing real estate, I was working with a coach, actually a business coach, trying to move my real estate business along. In doing some of that mindset work, I realized what my motivation was truly in helping people. It wasn’t so much about real estate. It wasn’t so much about selling houses. I really enjoyed helping people, and when I started coaching, Ken would hear me. My husband would hear me on the phone talking to clients, and he heard my passion. And he said to me, why don’t you do this coaching thing full time? You clearly love it. That’s when I went to my mentors and said, okay, what could this look like? But what I learned was that I could help people and a lot more people in a much more meaningful way, because truly, it is about transforming lives. You start getting text messages from people telling you, I came off this medication, I came off this medication.
Paige Wilson 00:05:19 Oh my gosh, I haven’t felt this good in 20 years. Or I can’t believe that I’m fitting into my wedding dress or whatever it might be, and it’s pretty rewarding. It really is just rewarding. It’s a fantastic feeling. So that’s my story. I fell into it and it just grew. And then during Covid, it really exploded because everybody was sitting on the couch eating ice cream, drinking drinks, and then all of a sudden, bam! It was crazy. I could barely keep up with it, but it’s been an amazing ride.
Freddy D 00:05:53 When you’re telling me that you had people texting you that they get off these medications or stuff, what you were doing there is you’re actually creating superfans out of those people because you’ve transform them and they’re sharing it with everybody else. So it sounds like your business really grew from a superfan perspective, promoting you, their brand advocates, really. But I call them business superfans because I look at superfans as being advocates on steroids. But that’s your sales force.
Paige Wilson 00:06:23 Yes, yes, 1,000%.
Paige Wilson 00:06:26 And as I get further and further into this business, to give you an example, it’s so funny. I have basically the entire town. Let’s just say it’s a town outside of New York City, Westchester County, literally. I want to say the majority of that town is on my program from one person. So it’s definitely the ripple effect. So this one gal who I hadn’t talked to in years found out about me from another friend. We all used to vacation together on a little island off the coast of Maine, and we grew up going to that little island. I helped one person on that island, and then she told this other person, and then most of the island has done the program as well. And she tells this gal, and she starts telling everybody in her town, and they all see her losing weight and looking fabulous. And so she’s sending that to me. So literally I have this entire town. That’s why I have clients all over the country is really a lot of that is through referrals.
Paige Wilson 00:07:24 And it’s just people love, they love the experience, they love the results, and they love how they feel. Truly lives are so yeah, we I experience quite a bit of that. It’s a lot of fun. Yeah.
Freddy D 00:07:37 Let’s when you’re getting those referrals, that superfan is out there promoting and sharing that information with everybody that they know. It’s because one, you’re being genuine. You’re really, truly helping them. It’s not about money. The money comes. So that’s a byproduct really, of doing the right thing. Reminds me, when I was selling manufacturing software, I was always looking where the company wanted to go because there was other competitive products that could do the same thing, a little bit different and stuff, but the end result was pretty much the same. But I didn’t focus on that. I focused where that business owner wanted to go, and I helped them get there, and this was just a tool that would enable him to get there. So what you’re doing is a similar thing is you’re providing the tool to help them get to where they want to get to.
Freddy D 00:08:30 And when they get there, they’re your biggest cheerleaders because you delivered what you said you’re going to do. Now you’ve got this sales force of superfans that are telling everybody, and now you tell me you got 2500 customers. That’s crazy.
Paige Wilson 00:08:47 Yes. It’s exactly how it works. I built a business because now I have other coaches that are out there reaching people that I could have never reached. That’s all part of the ripple effect because like me, they fell in love with the program and they knew that it would help them long term. And so they in turn wanted to help some other people as well. So it’s just like this whole giant, giant ripple effect. But it is about our approach. My approach really is the first thing that I’ll do is sit down with people and have a really good, really heartfelt conversation with them on not just what they want with their health, but why they want it. What is their life going to look like when they get there? What is your motivation? I want to lose £50 is one thing, but I want to walk my daughter down the aisle.
Paige Wilson 00:09:40 It’s a whole different story.
Freddy D 00:09:41 That’s the motivation right there.
Paige Wilson 00:09:43 It’s the motivation. And you have to dig that out because as they’re on the road and they’re on the journey, sometimes it gets hard. So as a coach, I need to bring them back to their why we call it your why bring them back to not just what they want, but why they want it. I want to be able to play with my grandkids. We’ve had I’ve had clients who I have a girl who lost maybe £150. She literally can ride bikes with her grandkids.
Freddy D 00:10:14 That’s amazing.
Paige Wilson 00:10:15 Barely walk. She could barely walk. And now she’s riding bikes with her grandkids. And another one who was basically bound to her chair because she had so much back pain. And now she is super active again playing with her grandkids. It’s these things, it’s life changing stuff. It’s not just a number on the scale. It’s about literally changing, not just your life, but your families. Because when you show up better for yourself, you show up better for everybody around you.
Paige Wilson 00:10:49 Including your employers too.
Freddy D 00:10:51 Sure.
Paige Wilson 00:10:52 Yeah. So I dig into that a lot with my.
Freddy D 00:10:54 So let’s talk about team for a minute and how you keep your coaches going because you want them to be super fans of you. So what are the things that you do so that the audience can learn as if they do have a team of whether it’s sales managers, health coaches like you have, or real estate agents. What can they do to or what is it that you’re doing is probably the better question to keep those people motivated and keep those people championing your cause.
Paige Wilson 00:11:29 I help them win. I help them win. And just like with clients, you have to dig in with your coaches to find out what their why is, what their coaching why is, what do they want? Do they want purpose? Do they want community? Do they need finances? What is it that do they want and what do they need? How important is it to them? When do they want it? We’ll get real specific with goals.
Paige Wilson 00:11:53 One thing that we do is we like to dream. So we’ll do dream boards or will do. We have this other thing we call dream napkins, where we write down these dreams that we have. We put dates to them and all of that. So it’s the same idea with coaches. You find out what they want, you find out why they want it. You help them dream and you help them with and you help them get there. I partner, especially with my new coaches who are new to the business and who need the help. I’ll go hip to hip with them and I’ll work with them. I have a new coach that I’m working with right now. I’ve been on the phone with her this morning. I helped her sign up several clients last night and today. That’s a huge win for her. It’s a huge win because she just wants to help people, but she’s still new, so she needs the help. And really, it’s the same. It’s the same in any business. It’s like in real estate.
Paige Wilson 00:12:45 Your broker is there to help the agents to help you. It’s the same idea. You have a true desire to understand where they are, to meet them, where they are, to challenge them, and don’t let them get comfortable. Keep them moving, because if we get comfortable, we get stagnant. And if I know that a coach wants something, if they want to hit a certain goal, just like with the client, I will challenge them. But out of love, out of a place of love.
Freddy D 00:13:16 But how do you recognize them for their achievements? Because one of my quotes in my book is people will crawl through broken glass for appreciation recognition. So let’s talk about how you incorporate appreciation, recognition, gratitude to keep those people motivated. Because goals are one thing, but I still need to feel like I’m contributing. I still need to be appreciated. I still need to be recognized for my accomplishments because otherwise I feel like I’m not part of the team.
Paige Wilson 00:13:49 Yeah, 100%. So with clients, we do celebration zooms, we do celebration calls where we literally we just did one the other night.
Paige Wilson 00:13:58 We literally will get in a group on a zoom and celebrate each client and have them come off and share and all of that. I may get them a little gift. Coaches. Same thing. We will celebrate them. We have a coach, Facebook group of private Facebook groups all celebrate them there so that all of their peers can see that they have brought on X number of clients, or that they have gone up a rank or whatever their achievement is.
Freddy D 00:14:25 Because that’s really important aspect is that’s what keeps the fuel going. They hit another level in business and now they’re making potentially more money and things like that. It’s very important for them to feel appreciated and that their efforts are being recognized. You said a key thing there about the peers, because if I sit there and says, hey, Paige, thanks a lot. Really appreciate your effort. Okay. You feel pretty good. But if I turn around, says, hey everybody, I want to take a moment to recognize page for really knocking it out of the ballpark this last month.
Freddy D 00:14:59 Hold different emotion. Completely different. Now, not only are you motivated, the individual like yourself, but now all the other people saying, wow, I want to be that person that gets recognized and that changes the whole dynamics of the whole equation.
Paige Wilson 00:15:16 That’s exactly it. And another thing that we’ll do with coaches is if a coach is standing out in a certain area, we’ll have them speak on a training. That way they get to speak on a training, they get highlighted, they’re recognized, and they’re looked at as somebody who has made a great accomplishment. So so that they’re able to contribute on a training.
Freddy D 00:15:37 And that’s a huge motivator for people. Because I remember years ago I was with the company, and the energy for me was to get to the point where I was training other people on how to market a particular service product. My energy was that everybody was looking up to me as being the expert, and that was my fuel.
Paige Wilson 00:16:02 Yep. Exactly, exactly. Everybody loves to be recognized.
Paige Wilson 00:16:06 Everybody loves it. So this Saturday morning zoom that I do, there are some times when I can’t do it. And so I’ll have one of my coaches host it and fill in. While it might be a little nerve wracking for him, it’s a huge win because they know that is near and dear to my heart and for me to trust them with it tells them a whole lot.
Freddy D 00:16:27 It takes it to a whole nother level because now they got to step up to the plate. They have to transform themselves to be able to step up to that plate. Now you’ve just built their confidence because, wow, I did this. I pulled it off. And so now they move on to a whole nother level and everybody starts looking at them and says, geez, John just did that. I can do that. So now they’re going to want to be that person and do the things so that they’re picked the next time to host an event.
Paige Wilson 00:16:58 That’s exactly right. That’s exactly it. And and then another thing that I’ll do is I like to do Facebook live interviews or I’ll do a zoom, which I promote, where I’m featuring a couple of different coaches on there.
Paige Wilson 00:17:12 So that’s a couple things that I do with coaches and even with clients with a client will let me all host a client on a zoom, or I’ll interview a client on a Facebook Live. I had a client who went to Europe and lost a half a pound on a two week trip to Europe. Not only that had a ton of what we call non scale victories. Just made super choices and just did an awesome job. So I interviewed her about that on Facebook, and it provided a lot of value for people who were watching because I told her, do you know how many people are afraid to travel while on program? You’re going to provide so much value for them. But at the same time, it was very empowering for her.
Freddy D 00:17:53 So now she’s your superfan because one, you’ve you edified her. Yep. You recognized her and they said edified already. So you’ve taken her to where she’s now your spokesperson in a sense because she’s sharing her story. So you don’t have to do selling your coach, your customers or your best salesperson.
Freddy D 00:18:16 You just got to get them to talk. And so you do it a nice way, which is a live Facebook. I’ve always said, take your smartphone. Let’s say you’re in a home improvement industry and the customer’s happy with the project. It doesn’t have to be Hollywood. Just take the phone and create a quick video and ask permission to share it. And that’s your sales person.
Paige Wilson 00:18:36 That’s exactly right. It’s exactly right. I think another important thing is, and this is a big basis behind my coaching, is I want to empower. I want to empower my clients. I want to empower my coaches. Because on the client side, we’re talking about lifelong changing lifelong habits and creating a healthy lifestyle. It’s you’re not going on a diet. Diets don’t work. You’re looking at shifting this because if you don’t shift this, nothing’s going to change for the long term.
Freddy D 00:19:08 Correct.
Paige Wilson 00:19:09 But they have to know that they have to feel empowered. I don’t want them to rely on me. I want to empower them.
Freddy D 00:19:16 That’s a big thing. I want to talk about that. I want to really hit that hard because there’s a lot of unfortunately, there’s some business owners, regardless of the industry that have the mindset that you should be grateful I have given you a job, or they get into the micromanaging to where you have to ask permission for everything. You’re never doing it right because only they can do it the right way. It’s refreshing to hear about the empowerment because like I say, Sir Richard Branson, he’s not making sure that the airplane tires on his virgin air has got air in it, or the plane’s got fuel in it, or he’s flying it himself. He’s got people empowered to do those things. Yep. To run a business, you need to be managing the business, not working in the business. Because if you’re in the business, you can’t see where you’re going. Yep.
Paige Wilson 00:20:12 And you need to multiply yourself, you know? Yeah, you need to multiply yourself.
Freddy D 00:20:16 And can’t scale otherwise.
Paige Wilson 00:20:18 Exactly, exactly.
Paige Wilson 00:20:19 And that’s all through empowerment. Hey, I tell them all the time. You know what I hope my coaches. Hey, I hope you surpass where I am. I want you to surpass where I am. I want you to go as far as you want to go with this, because everybody’s that way.
Freddy D 00:20:36 Everybody went. They have to have decision making abilities in business. So you can’t be running up to mom or dad and asking permission of, can I give this discount? Can I give that? No. You got to run with it yourself. You’re empowered. And tell business owners that when I work with them is you got to give them a little bit of leeway. Say, okay, you got up to $250 as an example, that you can do what you need to do to make something right. And you don’t have to ask me, just get it done. Zappos is one. There’s numerous the businesses that have that approach and they’re very successful. The empowerment of your team, I can’t emphasize that enough because that’s transformative for a business.
Freddy D 00:21:18 And a business owner doesn’t need to be working in the business because he knows that his team, his management team are all out to help that business succeed because they’re empowered. Yeah.
Paige Wilson 00:21:31 Absolutely, absolutely. Yeah. So that’s a big that’s a big thing for us. And that’s also how I’ve been able to grow this business is just through empowering and equipping my coaches and my clients. Empowered clients are going to do the best. They’re going to get the best results, they’re going to have the best transformations, and they may end up coaching themselves.
Freddy D 00:21:55 The other thing is you’ve created a network where people are supporting themselves. Oh yes, that’s the other aspect. And that’s what I think I talk about, is there should be when I talk to business owners, customer appreciation day, team appreciation day where you get out of the office or you or if people are working like Kylie, she works remotely, but they do have events where they either do a zoom party for all the sales reps that are all over the country, or they fly people back into Coral Gables, Florida, and they have a multi-day team function which builds camaraderie and everything else.
Freddy D 00:22:36 So those are things that some businesses just don’t even think of. That stuff that I’ve worked with. It’s mind boggling because they’re the ones that have high turnover rate.
Paige Wilson 00:22:50 Exactly. Exactly. Yep. Because just like you want to have the business superfans as customers out there, you want to have your internal people business superfans as well.
Freddy D 00:23:03 Really you want all stakeholders because like you said before about mindset. So the owner’s mindset needs to be in the right place. Yes. Number one. Number two, you’ve got to energize the team, which is your employees or your independent contractors. Whatever it is, they’re the same thing in my mind. They’re the team. And that energy transfers to prospective customers as well existing customers. Because if someone’s feeling unappreciated and feel that they’re underpaid and etc., their tonality is going to come across, their energy is going to come across and you get a prospective customer and they’ve got someone that’s on the phone that’s flat, that’s not energized, right. They’re not going to buy, they’re gone.
Freddy D 00:23:51 And you’ve got your suppliers, you’ve got your distributors, you’ve got your banker. If you don’t have an accounting department, you’ve got accounting agency. These are what I call complementary businesses. So it really incorporates that whole ecosystem of what runs the business. It all starts with like we were talking about is having people feel empowered, appreciated, recognized. And like you’re saying customers superfans. But yes, you want your employees to be superfans. You want your complimentary businesses to be super fan. You want your supplier to be a super fan of you, because if you’re in a tight spot, they might accelerate a shipment because they like you, they appreciate you because you took the time to send them a birthday card as an example.
Paige Wilson 00:24:42 Yep.
Freddy D 00:24:43 It’s the little things that are the big things.
Paige Wilson 00:24:45 Yep.
Paige Wilson 00:24:46 Yeah, that’s exactly right.
Freddy D 00:24:48 So that’s what I’m building with this business superfans mission. I probably mission is probably the better word is helping businesses understand that there’s more to just having a team of people and expecting them to be thankful that they have a job.
Paige Wilson 00:25:08 Exactly. We’re all humans. We’re human beings, and humans want to feel appreciated. They want to be recognized. They want to feel like they’re important. They want to be empowered. It’s exactly it.
Freddy D 00:25:21 You said something earlier page, which I want to get back to, was you took the time to find out what’s important to that individual. What’s their why. It’s the same thing if you’re hiring somebody. It’s one of the things that I don’t understand why some companies just don’t get this. And that is people are motivated by different things. One person money might be important and you brought that up earlier. Then you can create a compensation plan for that person that matches what their goals are. Another person might want more vacation time. And the company that drives me nuts. We’ll say businesses as a way. You can only have one week or two weeks. You can customize stuff. You run the business, you own the business. Hello. So you can turn around and says, okay, this person wants a month off.
Freddy D 00:26:12 Okay. Well just compensation accordingly so that they can maybe take a week off every 90 days like my friends in Europe do. So there’s a lot of clever ways that you can package things that you need to for that individual to transform them into, say, man, I work at the coolest company ever.
Paige Wilson 00:26:35 Yep.
Paige Wilson 00:26:36 Absolutely. Absolutely. We’re also really into personal development and just helping people to just grow, to grow where they want to grow. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. And again it goes back to what do they want. What do they want.
Freddy D 00:26:54 Some people want to continue their education. They want to get a master’s degree or a doctor’s degree. Then if that’s that person’s goal and you’re on your team, accommodate so that you can help them accomplish that goal. As a business owner and you’ve got a super fan because all of a sudden, wow, I can go and get my degree and I don’t have to worry about my conflict to my job. My job is tweaking it so that I can do both.
Freddy D 00:27:20 Now you’ve transform that company, and that company is going to skyrocket. Yep.
Paige Wilson 00:27:24 Yep. Absolutely.
Freddy D 00:27:26 Very cool. Where do you see yourself in the next few years with this business? Because it sounds like it’s just starting six years into it. Yeah. You’re still got a lot of growth potential. There’s only 300, some million actually almost 400 million people in this country. 2500 is 0.00000%. So you’ve got lots of opportunity.
Paige Wilson 00:27:48 Yes, we have lots of opportunity. It’s changing. The environment is changing, but the business has changed. New things are coming out and we just have to adjust for those new things coming out. We’ll never be for a lack of people who need what we offer. Unfortunately, 75% of the population is either overweight or obese. There is a drastic need for what we have in this not only country, but in this world. So yes, the thing is to just keep staying nimble and adjust as we need to, as the market shifts and the market changes and things come out and we’ve got people doing these medical weight loss shots now, we can help them.
Paige Wilson 00:28:33 We’ve got certain things that can help those people because they need help. They need guidance, they need coaching, they need protein. So we have a way to help them.
Paige Wilson 00:28:44 Because.
Paige Wilson 00:28:44 Those people take those shots, lose those.
Freddy D 00:28:47 £20 and then stop taking them and poof, the pounds are back.
Paige Wilson 00:28:51 Exactly next year. I was reading an article. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens, because there are a lot of people who are looking for a magic. Again, it comes up that you’ve got to work on this, because if you don’t work on the mindset and your habits and your thinking.
Freddy D 00:29:07 Is you slip, fall off the wagon and get back into it. It’s okay to have a cheat day every now and then. You still need to be able to right the ship and go back to direction.
Paige Wilson 00:29:17 Yep, that’s that’s exactly it. That’s exactly it. When I tell my clients all the time, it’s not about perfection. It’s about progress. I’ll challenge them. And I tell them right off the bat, you got lots of cheerleaders, and I will be your cheerleader.
